5 More film recommendations for you to watch during lockdown.

Writer: Sam WardSam Ward

Lockdown has been extended here in Britain, and unfortunately it doesn't seem like it's going to let up anytime soon. I have watched loads more films and TV shows to pass the time, but I have also had a chance to watch movies I haven't seen before. The following movies are a mixture of some I have and haven't seen, but would recommend in a heartbeat, so without further ado, here are 5 more film recommendations for you to watch in lockdown.

1. Shutter Island, Martin Scorsese, 2010

What an incredible, gripping film this is. I urge you to watch this as soon as possible, from minute 1, you will be gripped. Everything about this film was captivating, from the costumes and setting, which is the late 1950's, to the creepy, dramatic score. The film follows 2 US Marshalls (Leonardo Di Caprio and Mark Ruffalo) as they arrive at a psychiatric facility on Shutter Island, investigating a missing prisoner. I can assure you, the film is about way more than that, and you won't be disappointed, one of the best movies I have watched this year. Di Caprio is completely outstanding in this too, as he often is.

2. The Hateful Eight, Quentin Tarantino, 2015

Yes, more Tarantino, sorry. An often forgotten film compared to his others, The Hateful Eight is a little different. It's a western thriller that pits eight strangers, seeking refuge from a blizzard in a stagecoach stopover, just after the American Civil War. After the tense build up on the way to the stopover, the rest of the movie is shot in just one building, 'Minnies Haberdashery'. With plenty of twists, this slow burner keeps you on your edge of the seat, waiting for something to happen, and that's exactly what happened. I loved it, it's fantastically shot, and well worth watching.

3. Groundhog Day, Harold Ramis, 1993

This film seems appropriate given many people's situation at the moment, myself including. A lot of us feel like we're just living there same day over and over again, and that's exactly what Bill Murray went through in this film. This film is a classic among many families and is still a brilliant premise for a film for many families to watch even today. Bill Murray plays a newsreader who becomes stuck in a timeloop and is forced to live the same day over, and over again. One thing will be certain coming away from this film, you don't want your alarm tone to be 'I Got You Babe' by Sonny & Cher.

4. I Am Legend, Francis Lawrence, 2007

A post-apocalyptic film that follows Will Smith being the last man on earth after a virus has wiped the entire human race out, it seems only fitting that it should be on this list, right? Will Smith gets some stick for his acting, but he was incredible in this, the storytelling is brilliant. This is another film, much like Shutter, Island that will grip you right away. He is immune to the virus and is working for a cure, whilst fighting off mutants, so if you are into a bit of that, this is the film for you. It also has a stellar performance from Sam, the lovely Alsatian, so what more could you want?

5. Stepbrothers, Adam McKay, 2008

If you want a film that is easy to watch and will make you seriously laugh, this is the one for you. Films like this can sometimes flop and be widely hated, but this could be one of my favourite films of all time. Some of the lines in this are iconic, and the performances by Will Ferrel and John C. Reilly are comedy genius. The film follows the two comedians as they are forced to live together after their parents, who they still live with, marry, and move in together. Like I said the film is iconic, and sets the bar for other comedies, and whilst I admit it is polarising, I love it.
