I have always been very passionate about film. I have a few passions but the one that keeps coming to the forefront of my mind, and captivates me is the world of cinema.
In my teens I attended a college and took Film Studies and Media Studies and it was really here that I grew fonder of film. I had a brilliant Media Studies teacher who made it so easy for me to understand different camera angles, edits, shots, story writing etc. My Film Studies teacher was completely full to the brim of film knowledge, I have never met anyone like it. I don't believe she is still there now, so I really do not know what she is doing now, most likely something similar to this. She used to ask students for a film genre they didn't like, and one they loved, and recommended a film that incorporates the two, and tried to open up our mind to just one single genre we didn't like. She was right, we shouldn't just say "I don't like horror", "I cant stand Superhero Movies', as there are thousands of sub genres.
We also used to keep a journal where we would rate the film we have watched at home, write up about it and talk it out with each other in class the next day. It was this that sparked my love for film, I was now studying every shot, every angle, every genre of film. It still annoys my girlfriend today, as I sound like a nerd saying "Thats a wicked shot" or "the lighting is amazing in this scene". But that's what directors want from an audience, that is why there are people in charge of lighting, cinematography, multiple cameramen etc, to create an incredible viewing experience. Add music to the mix and you have a complete cocktail of storylines, atmosphere, pleasure and emotion.
Anyway, enough about me and the origin of the site, you will want to know what's coming in this blog.
Whenever I watch a film I will be taking notes, reviewing the acting, storyline, deciding whether or not to recommend or not, and I will be brutally honest about it. I will also be compiling lists such as my top 10 movies of all time, my favourite soundtracks and other stuff yet to be decided! if you have any film recommendations that you want me to review or ideas of lists etc, please get in contact with me!
Just a quick disclaimer, I am just a fan of film, I am in no way an expert, or a high end film critique, I just enjoy watching and writing about movies, and all the content will be my opinion!
